Deep San Fernando Valley dwellers who wonder what’s next for the recently shuttered Frosty Queen space can take a breath. In late September, Goldburger will debut its third location. Goldburger Granada Hills will offer diners a handful of tweaks, including a drive-thru, more outdoor and indoor seating than Goldburger Highland Park and Los Feliz, and milkshakes and soft-serve ice cream.

Owner and SFV native Allen Yelent tells Eater that a location near his childhood home has been on his wish list for some time. “I grew up in Chatsworth and went to Porter Middle School in Granada Hills,” says Yelent. “I’ve always wanted to open a place in the Valley and there’s so much more beyond on Ventura Boulevard. The Valley is a diverse and vibrant area and I’m super excited about invigorating [the] old architecture where I grew up.”

The former Frosty Queen space resides on Chatsworth Street just east of White Oak Avenue. The location was a Dairy Queen from 1972 until 1982 and closed as Frosty Queen in May 2024. Yelent will spend the next few months revamping the structure and installing a new sign above the business. Goldburger Granada Hills will have 30 indoor and 20 outdoor seats and a slightly different menu that Yelent is tight-lipped about. Frosty Queen had added Greek menu items during its tenure, a common practice in independent burger stand-heavy Southern California.

“I’m going to streamline the menu so it’ll be similar to a Goldburger,” says Yelent. “We’ll do everything in-house like an original, nostalgic burger stand.”

The new store’s classic milkshake flavors will include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and seasonal flavors, while the chocolate and vanilla soft serve station will also see seasonal flavor additions. Eventually, Goldburger Granada Hills will offer breakfast, including something not offered in its other locations currently: a breakfast burrito. Operating hours will be similar to the Los Feliz. This location will also navigate a new path for Goldburger: a drive-thru.

Goldburger first opened in Highland Park in 2019; its second location followed in 2021. LA’s love of burgers persists, whether smashburgers, thick patties, or old-school burger stands, so the new Granada Hills location is sure to satisfy residents in the upper Valley.
